Behavioral Aides provide support to the instructional program within an assigned classroom. A Behavioral Aide's responsibilities are to improve student successes in basic academics (reading, language and/or math); relieve teachers of clerical tasks; and assist students by modeling the skills necessary to perform assignments.

 

This is a 10-month position. Behavioral Aides are eligible for benefits as listed below.

Hours

  • Monday through Friday
  • Start and end time varies based on school assigned

 

Job Duties

  • Adapts equipment under the guidance of therapists and teachers (e.g. seating, tables, desks, computer hardware, etc.) to provide optimal positioning and increased independence for special education students.
  • Assists with classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives and/or IEP goals. 
  • Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional. (e.g. diapering, tube feeding, colostomy bags, etc.)
  • Assesses students for IEP modifications and accommodations, district benchmarks and IEP goals.
  • Assists in delivering behavior analysis services to provide support to students on an IEP.
  • Builds trusting relationships with students and ensures a safe and secure learning environment. 
  • Collects and inputs data for case managers according to established procedures. 
  • Communicates with instructional staff and support personnel (e.g. teachers, counselors, etc.) to assist in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives. 
  • Completes required documentation in a timely manner. 

 

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate's Degree preferred.
  • DESE approved paraprofessional test or 60 college credit hours required 
  • Registered Behavior Technician® (RBT®) Certification, required within 90 working days.
  • Must attend 10 hours of Professional Development annually to maintain certificates and/or licenses.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check.
