Paint Crew Assistant Supervisor

Purpose Statement

The job of Paint Crew Assistant Supervisor is done for the purpose/s of providing skilled painting services with specific responsibility for assisting with the supervision of painting operations and staff who perform these functions; preparing, painting and/or staining a variety of surfaces; and ensuring that tools and materials are available.

This job reports to the Paint Crew Supervisor.

Essential Functions

  •  Assist with supervision of paint crew staff for the purpose of completing projects in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining quality and meeting standards.
  •  Maintains tools and equipment (e.g. cleans brushes, sprayers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability and safe operating condition.
  •  Paints a variety of surfaces (e.g. buildings, parking lot markings, floors, playground outdoor furniture, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facilities in an attractive, safe, and usable condition.
  •  Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
  •  Prepares paint and other protective finishes (e.g. mixing, thinning, etc.) for the purpose of providing the best consistency for application and/or matching colors.
  •  Prepares a variety of surfaces (e.g. cleaning, sanding, scraping, patching, masking, nail holes, cracks, joints, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that they are ready for painting and/or refinishing.
  •  Removes graffiti (e.g. cleaning walls, graffiti removal, painting over it, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing vandalism and maintaining attractive facilities.
  •  Transports a variety of tools, equipment and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.

Other Functions

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

 

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in industrial painting including scissor lifts, brushes, rollers, ladders, scaffolding, handling hazardous materials; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read and follow instructions; and understand written and oral instructions.  Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: methods, techniques, materials, tools used in painting; and safety practices and procedures.

 

ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team; and ability to read, write and communicate clearly in English. Ability to lift 50 lbs.; ability to climb ladders up to 6'; and working under time constraints.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; operating within a defined budget. utilization of resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization’s services.

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 20% walking, and 75% standing.  The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
