Paraprofessional - English Language Development
The job of Paraprofessional - English Language Development (ELD) is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for assisting in the formative assessment and data collection of students' English language acquisition from their native language; administering tests; performing classroom clerical tasks and serving as a resource to other school personnel requiring assistance with ELL students.
This job reports to the Principal.

Pay
$15.52 - $19.48 per hour (based on relevant work experience)
Essential Functions
Administers tests, homework assignments, make-up work, etc. with the students for the purpose of supporting teachers in the classroom.
Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
Attends work on a regular and predictable basis for the purpose of providing students and staff with high quality service and instruction.
Creates instructional resources, as needed, (e.g. games, bulletin boards, etc.) for the purpose of providing enhancement to the learning environment.
Implements, under the supervision of the teacher, instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
Interacts consistently with students for the purpose of educating students.
Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, library, lunchroom, bus loading/unloading, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks using existing skills. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; and age- appropriate activities.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job
include: communicating with diverse groups including those with limited English proficiency; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; and prefer bilingual or multilingual ability.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working with immediate supervision; providing information and/or advising others; operating within a defined budget. utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to effect the organization’s services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
Experience: Job related experience is desired.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Equivalency: Associate's Degree preferred.
Required Testing:
Certificates and Licenses: Substitute Certificate (required prior to start date) (in order to get a sub certificate, you must have 36 college credit hours or complete the aproved 20 hours Substitute Certificate course)
Continuing Educ./Traning: 10 hours Professional Development/yearly CPR Training
Clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
